Why are corporations training more with video? One trainer from the financial services industry who was tasked with training thousands of his colleagues on the risks and opportunities related to social networking recently told us, "Nobody in their right mind is going to read this stuff....But if they see a peer on-screen, showing how they succeeded by doing it right, that’s got SO much more credibility than a document.” Another trainer, from a large retailing chain, said “I didn’t use to be a big proponent of video, but now I’d say I am - because it works.”

Anecdotal feedback is one thing. But a growing body of research now backs up these claims, as you can see in the below infographic. It turns out that training staff with video can be more efficient AND more effective.

Here are just a few of the ways organizations are using video to achieve these results. First, video allows employees to review lessons on-demand, without scheduling delays. Business systems can also automate delivery of the right lesson - just-in-time - even before an employee knows to go looking for it. And employee they can learn remotely with their mobile devices, negating the need for costly, in-person trainings.

Moreover, the User Experience with video is better-suited to knowledge retention. Employees can rewind and replay. Students who learn with video can come away afterwards with vivid visual memories, saying to themselves “that’s what I’m supposed to see.” They can reference the lesson again later and share it with colleagues upon request. And they can rate trainings and add commentary - all of which help to recommend your most valuable video assets to co-workers.

Whether you’re delivering onboarding/new-hire training, launching new products, training your sales team or helping your current workforce become more productive, you can likely get further - faster - with video. If you’ve considered video training in the past but were lacking know-how or resources, take another look and consider switching to video in 2015.
