360 Degrees Isn’t Always A Circle

A circle represents wholeness, continuity and balance.

In media distribution when you implement a 360 degree strategy, you’re attempting to draw a perfect circle and make sure that anyone can watch your content anywhere, anytime, on the device of their choosing.

There are two components of executing on this strategy: understanding your audience and having the right technology to deliver your content.

When you try to implement a 360 degree distribution strategy with only the former, you’ll end up pulling your hair out. All the uploading to various services, repeating work time and again changing metadata, adding new content, compiling statistics by hand, along with other headaches will leave you and your team exhausted and frustrated.

When you have the technology at hand, but no understanding of your audience, you’ll do a lot of repetitious work (costly work mind you) and have your content everywhere. However, everywhere may not be where your audience is.

Take the time to find out where your audience consumes content the most and focus on making that a great experience for them. Then add more destinations to see if the content will do well there. If not, don’t be afraid to pull the plug.

Trying to run a 360 play without the right tools or without understanding your audience is like trying to free-hand draw a perfect circle – it’ll never happen.

If you want help with either part of a 360-strategy, or both, give us a call. It’s what we love to do!
