Learning From Masters
uStudio | Video Production
This online piece is about the craft of filmmaking with videos from several famous artists. Regardless of your background, if you are involved in video/film production in any way, these videos provide a great perspective on various aspects of the craft. Just because you’re not an editor doesn’t mean you can’t learn something about editing from Orson Welles or pick up a new perspective on lighting and camerawork from Gordon Willis. (No big deal. He was just the Director of Photography on “The Godfather” and “Annie Hall.”)
The most interesting piece is from Robert Rodriguez. The experience of making his first movie “El Mariachi” led him to write a book called “Rebel Without A Crew,” which advises others to turn normal filmmaking upside down. The video in the article articulates his views from the book extremely well, encouraging others to make mistakes, use less gear, make ideas simpler and try to do more on smaller budgets.
This is a great lunchtime break waiting to happen: Check it out and don’t miss Alfred Hitchcock. You can argue they saved the best for last, but that’s a debate for another day!
