OTT2Last week we looked the growth of OTT (over-the-top television) and its potential impact on a company’s video strategy. (And by the way, we’re not just talking here about media and entertainment companies who are taking heed of OTT. Corporations, education and non-profits alike are all beginning to take advantage of video and these new ways to reach customers.)

Now, we’ll concentrate on the how of a maximized OTT strategy. As in the pre-OTT world, execution comes down to partnering with a video management tools or platforms provider. It’s still the best way to future proof your ability to reach all destinations with minimum fuss. Same as it ever was.

Here are 5 questions to ask your video platform provider regarding OTT. Hint: if you can’t get what you want today in terms of easy distribution to multiple destinations, then there’s little chance you get what you need in the OTT world.

  1. How easy is it to distribute to all the destinations I want my video content to go to today or am I limited to just web sites or YouTube or a player embed?
  2. Can my video move anywhere my audience goes without being glued to a player?
  3. Can I get comparative audience metrics from all the destinations (YouTube, my website, Vimeo, iTunes, etc.) on which my video is shown?
  4. Can I easily integrate my platform into other technology platforms (sales and marketing automation, for example) that I use daily?
  5.  Will I be in a world of hurt trying to figure out all the new codecs and transcodes OTT will require?
